A solo vocal performance piece

yet a warlock you pray for?

yet with blood you crave for?
ain’t I your own versus,
a godsend you sent with no gods,
a nonsense you sensed with no guts,
a limb you cut with no buts

a beast you kill and you die for
with blood you can suck

ANABIOSIS is a solo vocal performance piece, in which extended vocal techniques, speech act, various mediating instruments, the performer’s body, and a conjuration-based scenography are blended into a singular audiovisual medium for exercising an emblematic resurrection.
In ANABIOSIS – a scientific term for suspended animation that signifies the ability to return to life after death, a resuscitation, the performer’s resonating and enunciating body time-travels in miswritten and forgotten history and partakes in the revival of seven female legendary creatures existing in Anatolian mythology (as the artist’s homeland). In now-defunct narratives, these notorious, wicked and bestial figures have been not only portrayed as scapegoats for masculine deficiencies and malevolence, but also demonised, punished, slayed and yet, even after thousands of years, omni-reincarnated all across the world. To re-fabulate this circular history, depict a counter-factual portrayal and exorcise this ongoing violence through a set of vocal, sonic and bodily reenactments, the performance aims to play with cross-temporal and cross-cultural analogies and evoke the voices of these sempiternal characters frozen in tales. By using their narratives as starting points, the piece explores how experiences of enforced transformation and transfiguration, scripted in different times and bodies, can be communicated through different registers and positions of the ‘sounding-body’ with its vocal capacities, accompanied by other sounding elements in scenography. The staged voice is thereby exercised as a channel through times, bodies and affects.
The performance is to be composed of seven interconnected parts each of which is dedicated to one mythical figure (and to their animalesque characters) whose bodily habitation ranges from underground to sky, as in vocal resisters, rhythms, vibrations and resonances range over different pitches and beats.
